The promised “landmark of the City” — the Rs 1,000-crore world-class, inter-modal transit centre at Majestic in Subhash Nagar — may not come out in the originally proposed form, even as the processing of the bids of the five contenders would begin within a fortnight or so.

The promised “landmark of the City” – the Rs 1,000-crore world-class, inter-modal transit centre at Majestic in Subhash Nagar – may not come out in the originally proposed form, even as the processing of the bids of the five contenders would begin within a fortnight or so.

The transit point – that will integrate the KSRTC, BMTC, Bangalore Metro and a massive commercial complex – was originally conceived as a 45-storey tower.

However, according to sources, this design has been changed; now it will be a single structure, 60 storeys high.

According to a consultant involved in the project, the functions of the complex will remain the same, except that the design will be more cost-effective and suitable to the environment.

“The earlier design was only a concept. The new design keeps in mind the impact the high rise will have on traffic on the surrounding roads. We are also considering the Floor Area Ratio allowed as per building bye-laws,” said the consultant.

As per the new design, the centre will have about 80 lakh square feet area, with the KSRTC station located on the ground floor and the BMTC station 10 metres below ground level.

The metro station would be 25 metres below ground level.

The transit area will be physically segregated from the commercial area through landscaping and parking lots.

Status of project

However, according to KSRTC and BMTC Managing Director Upendra Tripathi, the final design will get a concrete shape shortly. “We are holding a meeting with the stakeholders, including the Metro, to sort out these issues in three-four days,” he said.

While the real construction work will take six months to begin, tender documents will be issued within a fortnight to the five bidders that have been shortlisted through a global tendering process.

The project will be taken up on Build-Operate-Transfer basis. The response to the bids, their evaluation and finalisation will take six months.

Flyover scrapped

Meanwhile, the 450-metre light-weight, easy-to-assemble ‘steel’ flyover, that was proposed to be built around the Shantala Circle at Majestic, has been shelved.

According to M K Shankaralinge Gowda, Bangalore Development Authority Commissioner, the flyover project was shelve
