Silver Jubilee Park (SJP) road works are nearing completion and the road is likely to be opened for traffic by November 2.

According to officials, Rs 3.5 crore has been spent on the 750-m concerte stretch.

The Karnataka Land Army Corporation took nearly one year to complete the small stretch of the road.

Explaining the reasons for delay, Chief Engineer (projects) AM Ranghanath told Deccan Herald that telecom cables of BSNL and private cellular companies needed to be shifted before commending the works.

That took, nearly six months, he explained.

Initially, it was proposed to have a 700-m concrete road at a cost of Rs 2.5 crores. Later, another 50 m road also was included. Also, Rs 1.5 crore was released as the first instalment four months after the work commenced. The cost touched Rs 3.5 crore as construction of footpaths and drainages were added to the works, Mr Ranganath added.

Karnataka Hardware and Allied Merchants Association President BK Goyal complained that the shops on the road had incurred heavy losses due to the road work.

He expressed the hope that the business would improve once the road was open for public use.
