The State Government’s plans to develop five integrated townships in the Bangalore Metropolitan Region (BMR) have gathered pace, with a Request for Qualification (RfQ) having been invited for the first township in Bidadi, in Ramanagaram Taluk.
Talking to reporters after a meeting of the Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority (BMRDA) on Wednesday, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said November 30 had been fixed as the closure date of the RfQ and the project would be launched before the end of March, 2007.
“We will soon take a decision on whether the project would be Government-funded or to be taken up on a Public Private Partnership model. Apart from the land compensation, the farmers will also benefit from their participation in the project,” he said.
The township is expected to come up on 9,684 acres, of which 2,725 acres are Government lands. It covers eight villages — Byramangala, Bannigiri, Hosur, K G Gollarapalya, Kanchugara-nahalli, Aralalasandra, Kempaiyyanapalya and Kanchugaranahalli Kaval.
Through a GO dated Oct 18, 2006, the Government has issued guidelines under which the five proposed townships — in Bidadi, Sathanur, Ramanagaram, Solur and Nandagudi — would be developed.
The guidelines cover aspects including land acquisition, bidding, town planning regulations and economic integration of losers of land with local residents.
The townships have been proposed in the limits of 85 villages, covering a population of about 79,000. They are tipped to be interconnected and connected to BMR ring roads and the National Highways, State Highways, railway stations and the upcoming Bangalore International Airport in Devanahalli.
