BANGALORE: After becoming soft targets at the hands of unruly mobs during the vandalism which followed Dr Raj Kumar’s death in April, malls and shopping complex in the city took shelter behind flags, nets and plastic on Wednesday.
The Karnataka flag and net wraps were a common sight at closed malls and shopping centres.
Many malls used plastic covers to protect their glass facades, which are usually the target of miscreants. This apart, the red and yellow flags were seen fluttering atop many offices.
The bandh was a total success with shops and commercial establishments downing their shutters. Most of them put up boards in Kannada, declaring: “Karnataka Bandge Namma Bembalavide’ (We support the state bandh).
Besides, hotels, petrol bunks and cinema halls also remained closed and also carried similar boards. As the authorities had declared holiday for schools and colleges, children were seen playing cricket in parks, playgrounds and on crossroads.
