BANGALORE: Garbage piled up in some parts of Rajajinagar and Anandnagar on Wednesday as the city came to a grinding halt on account of bandh called by pro-Kannada organisations.

BMP sources said that the most of middle and lower level officials stayed away from the work while joint commissioners and special commissioner worked at the head office. The zonal offices worked up to lunch break.

Sources said that the most of absentees were clerical staff who would be granted a casual leave for the day.

However, commissioner K Jairaj worked the whole day at his office at Urban Health Research Centre at Malleswaram.

Putting the lean day to good use, the Commissioner attended to the pending files. Many files were pending and 170 files were cleared, said Jairaj.
