Cong may get Rs 1-cr fine for Sunday mess

Bangalore: The party is over. It’s time to clear up the mess. But the Congress, which did not do so after its grand Sunday show, is expected to be asked to cough up a Rs 1 crore as fine.
The Congress ran riot, plastering the city with over 5,000 posters and banners, violating its contract with the BMP. The BMP, clearly not amused, has decided to slap the fine.
Though the BMP is yet to communicate the decision to the Congress, sources informed The Times of India that a preliminary survey had shown that the violations in the east zone alone attracted a fine of Rs 10 lakh. The permission granted was for 37 posters, but the number of paraphernalia, including banners, cut-outs and buntings across the city, added up to over 5,000.
The BMP is currently undertaking a road-wise video survey, which is supposed to be completed on Wednesday.
“Though some of the units took down the posters on Sunday night, it was a violation of the contract. The penalty amount could range anywhere from Rs 60 lakh to Rs 1 crore,’’ say officials detailing the mess.
