Cruising in top gear
Work on Bangalore’s lifeline infrastructure projects just picked up speed. International airport, BMIC and Hosur Road Elevated Expressway are remarkably inching towards reality. Metro Rail needs a greater push, though. Work going on at a clipping pace

Bangalore: With the formal clearance for redesign coming through for the Bangalore international airport at Devanahalli,
there is hardly any paperwork left: All that remains is the actual construction, which is going at a clipping pace at the airport site.
Two floors of the terminal building are visible now, as are bits of blacktop on the runway. The roof beams for the sevenacre terminal building are also being made, in preparation for hoisting onto the roof.
A service tunnel connecting the power house building and the terminal building is under way. The air traffic control tower, that has become a visible sign of how quickly the airport construction is progressing, is now at a height of 47 metres — 7 metres higher than last month. If the same pace is continued, the 65-metre high ATC tower will be completed within three months!
Runway, apron and taxiway work has continued without any hitches, despite intermittent rain. Besides ongoing work at other ancillary buildings, a 66kv switch yard and excavation for the main power substation building has commenced.
14th-month report card n Finishing touches for technical and administrative building . n Boundary wall nearly complete. n Power switching station being set up. n Fuel facility work started.
