BANGALORE: Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) commissioner K Jairaj said on Friday that six master plans would be prepared for the implementation of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). He was speaking at an interaction with the mayor, councillors and city MLAs on implementation of JNNURM.

The six master plans would deal with traffic management, solid waste management, storm water drains, flood management, environment and the road grid. Jairaj said that the projects under the centrally sponsored mission would help address the infrastructure problems of a fast growing city. A specific programme for the welfare of the urban poor would form part of the mission, he said.

Earlier, BMP special commissioner Gaurav Gupta made a presentation on the mission and the city development strategy plan prepared by the urban development department.

The government proposed to take up renewal of the City with a total budget of Rs 22,536 crore which includes Rs 2,783 crore outlay for drinking water and drainage, Rs 800 crore for solid waste management, Rs 7,536 crore for roads, Rs 3,511 crore for other road works, Rs 1,339 crore for storm water drains, Rs 14 crore for beautification, Rs 307 crore for other civic services, Rs 212 for tourism and Rs 6,034 crore for the welfare of urban poor.

Out of the total budget, BMP would have to contribute Rs 8,000 crore and the rest would come from the Centre and the State. Basavanagudi MLA K Chandrashekhar said that the City needed a scientific traffic management study so that the infrastructure could be developed to synchronise with the demand.

District Congress president Ramalinga Reddy, Rajajinagar MLA N L Narendra Babu, Binnypet MLA V Somanna, UDD principal secretary Laxmi Venkatachalam, mayor Mumtaz Begum, deputy mayor M Laxminarayana and leader of ruling party H Ravindra were present.
