BANGALORE: The Sheshadri Iyer Memorial Library in Cubbon Park is all set to open for public in next 15 days. The renovation work is under its final stages and the three sections of the library will be thrown open.

Now, the visitors can step into a new section, dedicated to the aspirants of civil service examinations and other competitive examinations.

P Y Rajendra Kumar, Director, Department of Public Libraries, told this website’s newspaper that redesigning work of the entire library has been taken up at the cost of Rs 1.5 crores and within 15 days the reading section, newspaper and magazine section and the new ‘competitive examination section’ will be opened for general public.

‘‘The department has already purchased 6,000 books related to competitive exams and more books will be added periodically. Under the 12th Finance Commission - Heritage Restoration Funds, the Central Government has provided Rs 1.5 crores for the renovation of the library,’’ he said.

‘‘We have also erected wooden racks made up of rubber wood so as new books can be added. Earlier, the department would spend 4.5 lakh per annum for the purchase of new books, but now the amount has been raised to Rs 25 lakh,’’ he said.

‘‘A statue of Goddess Saraswati will be installed at the new reception lounge and bust size statues of eminent personalities from this land will be placed under each pillar inside the library as well. The renovation is expected to be complete in three months,’’ he added.
