Russel Market is cleaned regularly, says BMP

The Hindu

Bangalore: The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP), in a statement, has said that the Russel Market is cleaned regularly every day. The cleaning of the market is taken up in two shifts — between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. and between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. Three lorries are used to transport the waste every day.

The release also said that the cleaning was supervised by the senior Health Inspector and Medical Officer-Health (Shivajinagar). The Deputy Commissioner (Health) had supervised the cleaning operations along with the zonal Health officer (East) on several occasions, the release added.

On Thursday, Minister for Forests C. Chennigappa's visit coincided with the removal of accumulated garbage, which was being loaded onto a lorry. The sweeping of the entire market and surroundings was completed for the second time; the waste was collected in one place and was being loaded onto the lorry, the release said.

The release also said that there was only one collection point in the entire market. The BMP had said that it would construct a bin at the collection point soon.

The Mayor had written to the Commissioner directing him to take action against the zonal Health Officer (East) for not making sure that hygiene was maintained at the market and slaughterhouses.
