Chaos on City roads

BANGALORE: The traffic on the road opposite to the City Railway station turns into a chaos during peak hours, especially early morning and evening, as autorickshaw drivers and private buses overlook all traffic rules in order to fetch passengers.

This situation, apart from adding to the traffic congestion, is causing accidents. Though there is a separate lane for autorickshaws, most of the auto drivers do not take them.

To add to the woes of motorists, the private buses, which originate from that road, consume half of the road for more than 3-4 hours in the night.

“It is very difficult for me to travel everyday, especially during peak hours at night as half the road is occupied by the buses and autos,” says Shankar, a shopkeeper.

Shashank K, a student, said that the autos rush from one end to the other to get a passenger. They do not look if there is another commuter around. “I have been hit by autos and buses when they were trying to overtake.”

The autoriders opine that the lane system is creating a problem for them, as they are unable to take a passenger. “I am a person who lives on daily wages, if I do not break the law, then I will not be able to feed my family,” says an autorider who wants to stay anonymous.
