Bangalore: Security has been tightened in and around HAL airport here following the aborted terror plot to blow up U.S.-bound planes from London.

According to deputy general manager, Airports Authority of India, A. Kulashresta, said that security had been tightened since the July 11 blasts in suburban trains in Mumbai.

Additional forces from the Border Security Force have been deployed at the airport. The Central Industrial Security Force personnel have been assisting other personnel in checking passengers' baggage.

Bomb disposal squads and dog squads have been kept on stand-by. However, air traffic from the city was not affected and most flights were on schedule.

Delays

However, some passengers complained about delays due to rescheduling of flights coming from other cities where more security measures were in place.

Airport authorities said additional security measures were in force for passengers travelling on international flights.

Carrying hand baggage had been prohibited for now and those flying to the U.K. and the U.S. can only carry essential articles for personal use like medicines in a transparent bag provided by the airlines.

The restrictions on hand baggage would apply to passengers taking connecting flights from Bangalore to travel to the U.K. and U.S. also, the authorities said.
