Work on the upcoming international airport at Devanahalli has moved to the next phase, with the airport promoters having already kicked off manufacture of special equipment for the airport in July.

As earthworks and construction progressed on various components of the greenfield airport, BIAL has started work on the airport security systems. Production of elevators and escalators for the terminal building also kicked off last month, sources said.

The height of the Air Traffic Control is 44 metres, eventually to rise to 65 metres.

Earthworks on the entire length of the taxiway have been completed, and construction work for over 2000 metres is already in progress.

At the apron area of the over-1,450-acre airport, installation of the storm water drainage pipes continued through July.
