Bangalore: Health Minister and district in-charge R. Ashok has asked the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) to reassess the grade separator plan at Malleswaram and address the concerns raised by the residents. He has asked the BMP to submit a report within three days.

After a power-point presentation by BMP Commissioner K. Jairaj, Mr. Ashok asked if in case of an emergency, which way should the ambulance coming out of KC General Hospital go during and after the construction of the grade separator.

He also asked why the BMP plan did not include a slot for relocation of the Malleswaram bus stand.

Though Mr. Jairaj had said an old taxi stand would be converted, the Minister sought to know if the idea was feasible.

With the underpass ending just before the narrow Link Road, would the vehicles coming from the Malleswaram Circle side be able to take a right turn easily, Mr. Ashok asked.

He also asked the Commissioner would a traffic signal not be necessary at the end of the underpass (near Link Road) to manage the traffic, which is expected to increase as a commercial complex is being planned near Gitanjali cinema.

The Minister also sought to know the status of the road that was to be created through Jakkarayanakere to join Malleswaram 11th Main.

The road was planned so that traffic could reach Yeshwantpur without entering Sampige Road.

The BMP had started work on the grade separator despite residents' protests on July 30.

Mr. Ashok had ordered the work to be stopped on July 31 after inspecting the site.
