The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s Standing Committee on Town Planning and Development on Wednesday took exception to a building being built on MG Road near Brigade Road junction, allegedly violating the sanctioned plan.

The committee members, led by committee President B S Puttaraju, noted that though there was a temporary injunction, the construction work seems to be in progress. The building, where Sona Bar and Restaurant was located, is next to the Cauvery Emporium and belongs to one B Ananthram.

According to BMP’s area engineers, the owner had taken permission for internal modifications and alterations. But, later BMP found violations in the sanction clause. The violations were vertical deviations in terms of additional floors and BMP issued notices to the owners to either comply or face cancellation of the permit and demolition. The owners then approached the court and secured a temporary injunction. The engineers said that the injunction was still in place. About 10 days ago, BMP’s legal section was again asked to expedite the case.

The engineers also noted that deviations exist even in the nearby Bangalore Central building on Residency Road-Commissariat Road junction. A temporary terrace has been put up on the terrace floor. A case is pending in a court, they said.

Meanwhile, the Standing Committee members identified buildings built in violation of the sanctioned plan in St Mark’s Road and Jeevanbhimanagar too.

On St Mark’s Road, a building belonging to one Anil Kapoor was found to be built in total violation of the sanctioned plan.

In a nearby building, housing the Karnataka Tourism Development Corporation office, the area meant for parking lot was being used for a shopping mall. In Jeevanbhimanagar, they noticed a residential apartment complex encroaching a storm water drain.

The committee ordered the officials to act against all these violations.

The members alleged that the BMP officials were themselves involved in all such violations.
