Freedom to choose ends for auto drivers on I-Day eve

Freedom to choose ends for auto drivers on I-Day eve

Autorickshaw drivers, beware. Becoming choosy about where want to go (or where you don’t) will be pretty costly for you. In fact, you may have to shell out a fine of Rs 2,000. Ditto if you charge excess fare.

This tough decision is the fallout of a Government Order which will come into effect from Aug 13.

As per the GO, an aggrieved passenger only has to note down the registration number of the autorickshaw and the police verification number mentioned on the display board and file a complaint via mail or at the nearest police station. The erring drivers will be booked under the new rule, arrested subsequently and produced before a court, where they will be slapped a fine of Rs 2,000.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic, East) M A Saleem, if the drivers are caught for the offence thrice, their permits would be cancelled.

The drivers have been given a months notice period, for valid objections, before implementing the new rule.

The passengers can mail their complaints against erring drivers to dcptrafficeast@gmail.com or dcptrafficeast@hotmail.com.

They can also file a complaint in a complaint form available at major commercial complexes and traffic police stations, he said.

Meanwhile, Syed Shafi Ahmed, the Regional Transport Officer at Jayanagar, in association with the Tourism department, is conducting a one-day training program giving tips for auto drivers on good behaviour with passengers.
