Long queues continued for railways and bus tickets on Sunday also with many people trying to be at home.
Though the Railways added a few extra coaches to clear the rush, they were not sufficient to meet the demand.
“We have been on the waiting list for the past couple of days and our names have not moved up the list even today,” This is how a City student, heading to Mumbai with his mother, remarked. He was planning to take a bus to reach Mumbai. Another traveller, who wanted to reach Vijaywada, although frustrated at not getting a ticket, had decided to play the waiting game.
“I am travelling alone and the train is the safest way to travel. I am going to wait another day and see what will happen,” added Mrs Saroja, who was here to visit her sister’s family.
Speaking to Deccan Herald, Railway officials pointed out that not more than 23 coaches could be added to each train, because of security reasons.
With getting tickets difficult in trains, many were rushing to KSRTC bus stand in the hope of getting seats in buses. The KSRTC had added several special services but they too proved insufficient to meet the demands of travelling public.
More services
Prakash Babu, Division Controller at the KSRTC bus stand, said that around 226 services operated on Friday and 246 on Saturday. “Maximum number of buses were given to the Dharmasthala-Kukke Subramanya route,” he added.
He also said that many people preferred travelling in the nights, because they could reach their respective destinations in the mornings.
However, for people like Sunaina, this has backfired. “I came here to catch the 9 pm bus to Mysore day before yesterday, and I missed it. I had to wait close to 45 minutes for the next bus to leave, and when it came, people made a beeline to catch it,” she added, saying that usually this was not the case when she travelled to her hometown during the weekends.
