Helmets are a must from Sept 1; cola sale banned
The Times of India

Bangalore: The state government has come out with two notifications: one making helmets compulsory and the other prohibiting sale and distribution of soft drinks in public places. After several flip-flops, the government has made helmets compulsory again — this time round the rule will come into force on Sept 1.
But it is silent on whether helmet wearing will be mandatory just for the rider or for those riding pillion too. Sources said rules like who should wear the helmet, specifications of helmet, penalty for not wearing it and category of vehicles will be announced shortly.
Earlier, the government had kept the order, which was to come into effect on August 1, in abeyance stating that there was a public demand seeking more time.
Meanwhile, the health and family welfare department issued a notification on Monday stating that soft drinks (carbonated beverages) will be prohibited in schools, colleges, hospitals, hostels and all state government offices throughout the state with immediate effect.
The reason: Soft drinks contained pesticides above the permitted level which was injurious to public health.
