Civic body asks builders to stop all construction activity
# Owners of these buildings have not left space for setback area
# Three buildings in Guruappana Palya asked to work for violating bylaws
Bangalore: The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) has served notices on owners of four buildings in the city for allegedly violating building norms by not leaving space for setback areas, Joint Commissioner (Works) Harsh Gupta said here on Monday.
Stating that setback areas were crucial as they allowed for parking in the commercial complexes, Mr. Gupta said that violation of setback areas increased pressure on the already congested roads of Bangalore. A major building coming up on Ulsoor- Dickenson Road junction was supposed to have 10 feet of setback area, but the builders had not left any space, he said.
"We have asked them to stop all construction activity as a setback area is especially important at junction areas," he said. Three buildings in Guruappana Palya (Ward 64) had been asked to stop construction for violating building bylaws, Mr. Gupta said.
About five high-rise buildings in Commercial Street area had started construction without even submitting building plans, he said. Stating that permission for high-rise buildings were not given on crowded streets, Mr. Gupta said that these buildings would be served notices soon.
The drive is part of BMP's efforts to control rampant violations of building bylaws across the city. A joint committee has undertaken the work of surveying these violations and checking whether any violations have occurred after the builders were given completion or commencement certificates. The committee started the survey work 10 days ago.
