BANGALORE: Unplanned development in the past has been posing miseries in the present. The delay and ongoing construction of the Ramamurthy Nagar under-pass on Outer Ring Road (ORR) has been causing problems to residents and commuters.

Areas connecting many integral roads to the city need quick action. ORR connects national and state highways and the main arterial route for interstate and urban vehicular traffic.

The delay in the completion of the under-pass is due to inadequate working of the Bangalore Development Authority and traffic mismanagement. BDA Commissioner Shankarlinge Gowda said “this is because of the delay in shifting the utilities.”

Inadequate planning by the BDA and mismanagement has led to the slow development of the area, complain residents. “It is very difficult to commute on the route because of the construction and notorious lorry drivers add to the inconvenience”, says Prashant Jain, a shopkeeper in Ramamurthy Nagar.

But, Additional Commissioner, Traffic, M N Reddy, is still unmoved by the grievances of the residents. “I have travelled on the route, the traffic is smooth flowing. The diversions are well planned for the benefit of the residents.”

While advising the commuters on the usage of alternate roads Gowda added, “Before using the trunk roads the police and residents should check the diversions to avoid inconveniences”, he added. The project is scheduled to be completed by May 2007.

But with improper planning, re-laying of the road towards Old Madras Road and the traffic mismanagement, the set date seems to be a distant dream.
