BANGALORE:The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) Managing Director V Madhu and Delhi Metro Corporation chief E Sreedharan on Tuesday met Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and discussed the Bangalore project.

The Metro has gained momentum after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh laid the foundation stone for the project in June. The BMRCL board, during its recent meeting in the city, had decided to expedite the implementation of the much-awaited project.

Madhu told this website’s newspaper that five firms have been short-listed for inviting tenders for the general consultant and the board has approved planting of 15,000 trees in the city. Nearly 1,500 trees will have to be cut down to make way for the metro rail. The saplings will be planted at a cost of Rs66 lakh. While the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) will plant 10,000 saplings, the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) will plant 5,000 saplings.

Meanwhile, the CM has convened a meeting of BMRCL officers on August 8 to discuss the objections raised by some residents and traders’ associations over the metro alignment. The Government is likely to take a final decision about the alignment after the meeting.
