2nd loop from flyover is open, will decongest Airport Road

The Bangalore Development Authority on Monday signalled the next level for the Airport Road Grade Separator by throwing open to the public the second loop from the main flyover. The loop, connecting Koramangala to Airport Road, was inaugurated by BDA Commissioner M K Shankaralinge Gowda at a low-key function.

The grade-level bridge connecting Indiranagar to Airport Road, which had been closed due to work taken up on a loop, was also opened for the public.

Motorists from Koramangala can now take the flyover, take a left diversion through the new loop and make the Airport Road (AR). Those coming from Indiranagar can take a left diversion in front of Hotel Nandhini at the start of the flyover, move through the grade-level bridge and join the AR.

Earlier, motorists from Indiranagar direction had to go through 17th Main and other sub-roads before hitting AR. The grade-level bridge will now offer a free, faster access to AR, Mr Gowda said. With the opening of the two 300-metre stretches, the flyover has moved to the next phase and the BDA is looking at completing the project by November this year.

Three more loops

By September, the loop connecting Domlur to Koramangala will be in place, Mr Gowda said.

Vehicles coming from the City through Domlur can take the ramp, go through loop three and take a right turn to Koramangala.

The two final loops connecting Indiranagar to Domlur and AR to Indiranagar will be completed in October and November respectively, according to BDA Engineer-Member M N Ramaswamy.

Mr Gowda said the grade separator, even in its incomplete form, had considerably eased traffic in the area and said, on completion, it could fully decongest AR and neighbouring areas.

The surface road from Koramangala towards Domlur was also opened on Monday.
