`Work was qualitatively checked and certified by technical audit consultants'

Bangalore: The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike authorities on Monday said that the completed surface of the road from N.R. Square to Hosur Road junction was qualitatively checked and certified by Technical Audit Consultants.

Reacting to a report in these columns on Monday, it said payments had been made only for the work so far executed.

The total payment made was Rs. 66 lakh of the contracted amount of Rs. 90 lakh, Project Director of Karnataka Municipal Reforms Project Puttamaligaiah said.

"This is one among seven roads taken up under KMRP Package 1. The project covers rehabilitation of the drain to a length of 325 metres, followed by a strengthening layer of bituminous macadam for 1.33 km and a final 40 mm layer for the entire length. This work was given to KNR Constructions Limited of Hyderabad after concurrence of the World Bank. Of the total length of 2.4 km, the stretch under the flyover for 400 metres in both directions have not been tackled. The photograph published in The Hindu is of this stretch. The road cutting was done by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited and will be restored according to specification," he said.

The complaints of residents about laying of binding material, potholes not filled up and laying of 20 mm instead of 40 mm are being replied to the residents' association, he said.

The work under the flyover would also be taken up and completed after the BSNL carried out their work.

"The quality and quantity of any work undertaken by BMP will be fully addressed," Mr. Puttamaligaiah said.
