Two teenagers died in separate road accidents involving BMTC buses in the City on Wednesday morning.

Tension prevailed for some time on Nagawara Main Road near Hennur, when an angry mob protesting against the death of a teenager, pelted stones at the bus and set it on fire.

Sixteen-year-old Mohammed Tabrez, who tried to board a moving bus, lost balance and came under the rear wheels of the vehicle. He died on the spot. The incident occurred near the Glass Factory bus stop on Nagawara Main Road at 10 am. Bus driver Ravi fled from the spot, but was arrested later. Tabrez was an assistant in a tailor shop on Commercial Street and was heading for his work place when the mishap occurred.

Witnesses held the bus driver responsible for the accident. They pelted stones at the bus and tried to set the vehicle on fire. The police had to resort to lathi-charge to disperse the crowd. Tension prevailed for some time in the area as people continued to pelt stones at shops and passing vehicles. A photographer of an English daily, K Sunil Prasad, who went to cover the incident was assaulted by the mob and his camera was smashed to pieces. He was treated at a private hospital and later discharged.

There were traffic blocks on Nagawara Main Road for more than two hours. One person has been arrested on charges of pelting stones.

In another incident, 15-year-old Gautam died after the Kinetic Honda he was riding was knocked down by a BMTC bus near 10th Cross in Wilson Garden at 5:45 am. The pillion rider, Harish (15), was injured, but is said to be out of danger. Class X students of BHS School in Jayanagar, Gautam and Harish were on their way to tuition classes when the bus knocked them down. The bus driver has been arrested. Gautam was using his relative’s two-wheeler and had no driving licence, the police said.
