BANGALORE: Peeved by complaints from residents that the Airport Road flyover is wrongly designed, Bangalore Development Authority Commissioner M.K. Shankaralinge Gowda has said that one way of correcting the problem was to buy up some of the houses near it, and demolish them.

"We can acquire the small bits of residential land near the flyover and widen the road so that traffic can flow smoothly," he told The Hindu .

Mr. Gowda said that the flyover, constructed by the Uttar Pradesh State Bridges Corporation, had undergone several changes of design and that it would not be possible to change the design once again. The flyover is to be opened to the public by July 15.

Some of the residents in the area complained that the box drain built along a 200-metre stretch of the Koramangala-Indiranagar link flyover made it impossible for them to bring in or take the vehicles out of their houses. "It leaves us stranded," said R. Shanti, a resident. As the BDA had ruled out any changes in design, the residents had urged it to provide a ramp by the side of the flyover so that movement of traffic could be facilitated.

Mr. Gowda said that the BDA was planning to construct a ramp at the place.

The Airport Road flyover has been a troubled project for the BDA.
