NICE road a haven for illegal activities

NICE road a haven for illegal activities
Vijay Times

A portion of the newly inaugurated Bangalore-Mysore expressway under the BMIC project, is becoming a haven for all kinds of illegal and immoral activities. Drunkards, those indulging in sex as well as drag racers on two-wheelers are making a beeline for the road, given the protection it offers away from the City limits.

With just one Hoysala assigned to patrol the road, the misadventurous rule the roost, say senior police department officials.

Groups comprising mostly of students and reckless youth make a beeline for the hilly tracts adjoining the expressway, as it provides enough cover for various unlawful activities.

About two kilometres from the Kanakapura Road towards Mysore Road, a rocky hill, adjacent to an open land meant for a BDA layout, poses an ideal spot for alcohol consumption and indulging in sex.

Misguided youth are attracted to these locations, which are devoid of heavy traffic as the approach road connecting Mysore Road is yet to be completed.

Besides, quarry work in the rocky hills discourage motorists from using the road at present. An S-shaped road from the approach road from Mysore Road is narrow, allowing only a few vehicles to come to the main stretch.

Used condoms, their empty packets and liquor and beer bottles strewn around, is evidence enough of how these spots are used. Over weekends, the expressway turns into a spot for drag races, posing a grave risk of accidents, as families too come to see the road which has made headlines in the media.

According to police, with stringent measures being implemented against those involved in drag races on Cubbon Road, where sub-inspector Arun Kumar lost his life while stopping a vehicle, the scene is now shifting to newer areas such as the stretches of the Bangalore-Mysore expressway.

Also, dhabas on Bellary road are few, due to National Highways Authoritys road expansion plans, including the ready Yelahanka bypass road.

Some BMIC construction workers demanded the police department to increase patrolling on the expressway stretches.

NIC road should be made intio a boulevard with malls and entertainment centres ....
all government offices shuold shift here ........ all future goverment projects such as auditoria, stadia, should come up here.. this
would make it a top tourist attraction in the city ...32 kilometres long.. no other city
in the world has this ...... after the construction of the peripheral ring road lorry traffic will take the road beyond this ..hence this will be free of truxk traffic as well
