Bangalore: People generally have a poor image of politicians. They are usually seen as the ones who shake hands before elections and shake confidence after elections. But Sangliana has been able to change that image in the minds of the people of Bangalore North constituency. In fact this supercop-turned-Member of Parliament has won the admiration of the people with his dedicated service.

His efforts have seen a 13-km stretch of the Bagalur Road being built at a cost of Rs 1.25 crore with MPLAD funds. It has been built according to national highways standard, and it is expected that no potholes will make an appearance for the next 10 years.

The total expenditure for road construction from the MPLAD funds was Rs 5.16 crore out of which Rs 1.95 crore was spent in Devanahalli, Rs 61.10 lakh in Hoskote, Rs 1.20 crore in Yelahanka, Rs 71.81 lakh in Varthur, Rs 28.50 lakh in Bharathinagar, and Rs 40.66 lakh in Shanti Nagar. This apart, he has been instrumental in getting his people aid under the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. Following his DO letters, 27 heart patients could undergo surgeries, five cancer patients got help to undergo critical operations, and one kidney and one brain tumour patient too benefited.

But this is not all. The people of the constituency have expressed gratitude for the personal interest he takes in their problems.

Sangliana spends his time and energy getting admission for students in colleges and schools; accommodation in Tirupati guest house, quick darshan at Tirupati and train reservations. He also gives recommendations for jobs, has settled many hand-loan overdue issues, matrimonial matters and neighbourly quarrels. He has even had borewells built.

For Sangliana, work starts early in the morning and goes on late into the night. At times he starts getting calls at 6 am. He says with a smile, “I enjoy serving the people from a bigger platform.’’
