BANGALORE: The inconvenience caused to the public after the formation of five new regional transport offices (RTOs) owing to a mismatch between areas and offices has been set right by the Government after a year.

The Government has renamed two new RTOs — Bannerghatta RTO will be called Electronics City RTO, and Rajarajeshwari Nagar RTO will be known as Jnanabharathi RTO. A Government Order was issued on June 5.

On June 6, 2005, the Government ordered the setting up of five RTOs in Bangalore — at Yelahanka, Krishnarajapuram, Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Bannerghatta and Nelamangala — as five existing RTOs were overburdened because of a steep increase in the number of vehicles.

However, a few areas were located at a distance from the RTOs assigned to them and this caused inconvenience to people. For example, residents of Padmanabhanagar had go to the Bannerghatta RTO at Parappana Agrahara off Hosur Road. People from many villages in Magadi taluk had to go to the Rajarajeshwari Nagar RTO. Following complaints, the Transport Commissioner formed a committee comprising three joint commissioners of transport and a deputy commissioner of transport, and a Government Order was issued on the basis of its recommendations.
