Bangalore: The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) has called for tenders from contractors to shift utilities such as power lines, telecom cables and water supply pipes which may hamper the construction of the project.

"This is to avoid crisscrossing and ensure smooth construction," V Madhu, managing director, BMRC, said.

The selected contractors will ensure the displaced utilities will be positioned in a way that services are not affected.

He said the work will be taken up in a coordinated manner. "We will soon award tenders for the work.” On funding, he said the State government and the Japan Bank International Corporation will contribute 30 per cent each, while the Centre will contribute 25 per cent of the cost.

The remaining funds will be provided by a consortium of banks led by UTI.

Expressing happiness over the pace of construction work on Namma Metro he said the project will begin as per schedule and will be completed by October 2011.
