The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) is planning to set up a group of general consultants to manage and monitor the construction work on the rail system, which is expected to begin by September/October.

The general consultant group, to be set up after the foundation-stone laying ceremony, will have major players well-versed in construction and implementation of Metro Rail project across the globe.

BMRC managing director V Madhu the nine groups include five major global players, but declined to disclose their names. The BMRC had called for expression of interest for consultant groups and nine were in fray.

"These groups consist of representatives of reputed companies from USA, Japan, European Union and Singapore with immense experience in Metro rail projects. We have examined their credentials and will be finalising them shortly.” Madhu said the consultant groups will monitor and manage work. Even the contractors will report to them. He said a new board will be constituted by first week July, which will finalise the total number of consultant group members. DDees siiggn n:: BMRC will shortly be awarding tenders to design seven Metro Rail stations at the earliest.

Madhu said the work on stations for the Byappanahalli section will begin shortly as the bidding process for these stations have been completed. "There are five major national companies in the fray and tenders will be awarded to them this month.”
