Bangalore: Work on Mono Rail will take off on Sept. 1, CM Kumaraswamy said on Monday. After a presentation on Mono Rail by Metrail, a Malaysian consortium promoted by a fomer Union cabinet secretary, he said the party had proposed an 18-kmpilot project.

“The Bangalore Metro Rail Corp, which is executing Metro Rail, will also handle Mono Rail. The urban development department will be the nodal agency.’’

Refusing to give any more details, he said decisions on other aspects will be made in three weeks.

Sources said three foreign parties have met the CM and shown interest in the project. Mono Rail will serve as a feeder service to the Rs 6,350-crore Metro Rail.

The network with links to arterial roads is expected to have no investment from the government and will stretch to areas not covered by Metro. First phase will be between Kanakapura main road and Majestic on a build-operate-transfer basis.
The present and future route alignments of Metro will not be affected by Mono Rail. The 18-km stretch will be laid along the existing roads and will not involve any demolitions and acquisitions, the CM said.
