THE Grid Transport System, which was designed by the Commuters Comfort Task Force (CCTF) a couple of months back, has been implemented in the City on a small scale.

The system, which is considered to be much more efficient than the existing one, will facilitate connections on parallels in the City and also along concentric circles on the Ring Road.

If the system is implemented on a large scale, commuters will not have to board more than two buses to reach any destination in the City from their originating point.

"Only blue colour buses have been introduced in the City as of now. The first route in which the buses will be operating is the northsouth route that is from Hebbal to J P Nagar," said Grahak Shakti managing trustee V K Somshekhar.

"There will be totally 91 routes under the Grid System, with roughly 30 buses running in three slots. By November 1, buses in different colours and on different routes will be seen running in the City," he said.

"Right now, there are around 1,200 existing routes. But once the Grid system is in place, the routes will come down and it will be convenient for the public," he added.

However, it appears that the public will take more time to understand and appreciate the Grid system, which is an entirely new concept.

Anand, a commuter, points out, "It is too early to comment on the Grid System. The concept is new and somewhat confusing. Once buses are operated on all the routes, I believe it will become easy for the commuters." "The public takes time to accept any system. Though details of how the Grid system functions is kind of unclear, it will prove to be useful in the long run as there are lesser routes," said Anup, another commuter.
