THE government will extend complete support to the Bangalore City Corporation (BCC) for constructing a monument for Bangalore founder Kempegowda," Bangalore District in-charge and Health Minister R Ashok said on M onday .
Addressing mediapersons, he said that the four towers in the City would also be given a face lift and that the monument of Kempegowda at Magadi would also be developed.
"Sufficient funds for completing these tasks will be released," he added.
He urged the corporators and officials to improve Bangalore and realise the dream of the founder of the City .
The BCC office and its surrounding areas were tastefully decorated on Monday as part of the famous Kempegowda Day celebrations. A host of cultural programmes were also organised as part of the celebrations.
Artistes from different parts of the state and from J anapada Kalayatre performed various programmes such as
Dollu Kunita, V eeragase, Somana Kunita, Kamsale and Gombe kunita. Over 2,000 people gathered at the premises of the BCC to savour the cultural feast.Some of the people were seen dancing to the tunes of musicians.
A grand statue of Kempegowda was kept in front of the BCC Kempegowda hall and garlanded. Earlier , Mayor M umtaz Begum garlanded the statue of Kempegowda at N R Square and visited all the four Kempegowda towers in the four corners of the City including (old boundary) Lalbagh, Ulsoor lake and Kempambudi lake.
The Mayor received the jyothi (torches) that came from the four to wers.
Cultural programmes were organised in various wards of the City . A man dressed like Kempegowda was taken out in a procession in the City . The event was followed by various cultural programmes.
As on Monday , 72 names were announced for the prestigious Kempegowda awards. The award winners would be honoured on Kempegowda Day by Chief Minister H D K umaraswamy . A few more names are expected to be added to the list of awar d winners. The candidates,from various walks of life, would be considered based on the service they had rendered.

"The process of amalgamating the BCC with the seven City Municipal Councils and a T own Municipal Council will take place before BCC elections," Ashok said.
A committee had been formed to create Greater Bangalore under the chairmanship of Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy . The committee would take inputs from officials and peoples representatives to address problems before the amalgamation process.
