BANGALORE: To decongest the traffic movement from Balekundri Circle to CTO Circle, the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) is constructing a bus bay near Balekundri Circle.

The new bus bay is coming up near existing BMTC bus shelters near Parsi Temple on the road connecting Balekundri Circle and CTO Circle. The new bay is expected to ensure smooth traffic flow on the road and passengers will not have to stand on roads to catch a bus.

Buses from Shivajinagar to Kempegowda Bus station (KBS), KR Market, Domlur, Indiranagar, Jayanagar, Hosakerehalli, Vijayanagar, Rajajinagar, ITPL and many pass on the same road. At present these buses stop on the road near the temple which results in traffic congestion.

A semi-circular bay will be constructed at the junction of Venkataswamy Naidu Road (Road from Shivajinagar Bus stand towards the New Indian Express office) and Queen’s Road (road connecting Balekundri circle and CTO office).

However, BMTC sources said that they might construct two semi-circular bays. The two existing BMTC bus shelters will be removed. “The bay will be constructed within one month,” sources said.

The BMTC has already diverted some buses to Ambedkar Veedhi from last Thursday. According to Shivajinagar Assistant Traffic Manager CLN Murthy, about 88 buses with over 300 trips have been diverted and will pass on Ambedkar Veedhi. Commuters welcomed the BMP move to construct a bay.

“At present, commuters have to stand on road to catch a bus, which is dangerous. With new bay they will no longer have to stand on roads,” said Radha, a commuter.
