IN an attempt to maintain cleanliness at Lalbagh, the Horticulture Department will launch the ’Clean Lalbagh Campaign’ from June.
Addressing a press conference on Monday , Horticulture Director G K V asant Kumar said, "W e are planning to rope in school students in the campaign in order to inculcate a sense of belonging about Lalbagh among children." Students from institutes like PES Institution, Vijaya High School and College, Lions Club and other NGOs have enrolled to take part in the campaign.

I ID D c ca ar rd ds s t to o t to ou ur ri Handing over the identity cards to 10 tourist guides who are on duty at Lalbagh from today , he said, "Lalbagh, one of the important tourist destinations of the world, has historical, botanical, architectural, archaeological and heritage values. Our tourist guides have undergone a week-long training and orientation programme and now they can guide the tourists well about this place." Also, in order to create an awareness among the visitors to be disciplined and to protect the environment and plants here, 30 committed voluntary plant lovers have been selected and appointed from the daily walkers of the garden as tree wardens, he said.
"The primary objective behind this is to educate the public not to create nuisance and to help maintain the garden clean," Kumar said while he handed over the identity cards to a few tree wardens. O Ot th he er r f fa ac ci il li it ti ie es s The day was also marked by the inauguration of a tourist cloak room facility , by founder chairman of PES Group of Institutions, M R Doreswamy .
"Keeping in mind the inconvenience of carrying big baggages while taking a stroll in the garden, I took the initiative of introducing a cloak room at the entrance of the East Gate," Doreswamy , who is one among the tree wardens at Lalbagh, said.
There are 32 pigeon holes or cabins in the cloak room which will remain open from 10 am to 6 pm everyday . The college authorities have also donated 50 fibre glass dustbins to keep the garden clean.
