Drive to clean and remove obstructions on footpaths from Monday

BANGALORE: Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) Commissioner K. Jairaj has directed the staff of the engineering wing of the civic body to take up a drive to clean, restore, and remove all obstructions on footpaths in the city.

In a circular issued on Saturday, Mr. Jairaj has asked the engineering staff to prepare a detailed plan on footpath restoration and implement it by June 15. "Work should start from Monday itself. Debris and garbage or any other kind of obstruction on pavements should be cleared for smooth pedestrian movement," the circular said.

The drive, which includes cleaning and restoration of footpaths, will be carried out on all major and minor roads in each ward. The assistant engineer and the junior engineer of the ward are entrusted with the responsibility of conducting the drive. They have also been asked to submit progress reports once a week.

Executive engineers have been asked to consolidate weekly reports and submit them to the zonal chief engineers, who will send the reports to the zonal joint commissioners.

These officials will then finally submit the reports to the Commissioner during the heads of departments meeting every Wednesday. This process will start from May 17, the circular added.
