Greater Bangalore plan gets cabinet approval

Greater Bangalore plan gets cabinet approval
The Times of India

Bangalore: The IT city is going New Delhi and Mumbai way: Adopting the administration pattern of National Capital Region and Bruhan Mumbai (Greater Mumbai), the KDF government on Wednesday cleared a proposal for Greater Bangalore.

With this, the path has been cleared for the integration of the seven CMCs and one TMC area around the city with the Mahanagar Palike area. After a cabinet meeting, law and parliamentary affairs minister Basavaraj Horatti said: “We’ve given administration sanction. A private organisation is willing to do a feasibility study free of cost, we are still considering that.’’

A proposal came up in the previous government to split the same Greater Bangalore area into Bangalore I and Bangalore II, with different taxation. But Horatti did not refer to it. Clarity has also not emerged on the Dharam Singh government’s idea of floating a Bangalore Metropoiltan Regional Authority, that would be an umbrella body for all civic agencies in the Bangalore region. There has also been no reference to the special purpose vehicle for Bangalore development — BUILD (Bangalore urban infrastructure local development corporation) — announced by deputy CM B S Yediyurappa.
