BMTC to seek view on urban transportation

IN order to enable better connectivity and quicker transport facility to its commuters, the Bangalore Metropolitan T ransport Corporation (BMTC) in association with the Commuter Advisory and Facilitation Committee (CAFC) will hold zonewise public consultation programmes to prepare a report on urban transportation for five years.

The CAFC and the BMTC officials will interact with commuters in all the five zones (east, west, north, south and central) of BMTC. The interaction is aimed at collecting feedback and suggestions from the public on the existing public transport facility . Those suggestions, which are feasible, will be incorporated in the report that will be submitted to BMTC managing director Upendra T ripathy .

Speaking to B BV VT T , Somashekar V K, Cochairman of CAFC said that the zonal meetings on public consultation on urban transport would be held within a month’s time. "Apart from feedback and suggestions, a host of other issues like whether the BMTC was meeting the transport demands of the public and changes to be introduced in the existing system will be discussed during the interaction," he added.

A report will be prepared based on the outcome of the meetings and will be submitted to the BMTC MD . Based on this, the transport corporation will prepare a proposal on urban transportation that will be submitted to the Centre.

It may be noted that the committee was directed by T ripathy to find solutions to problems that persisted in major BMTC bus terminals in the City follo wing a six-part series reported in VT. .
