A few low-lying areas were inundated due to poor drainage system. The water level rose to over one foot in some areas at Hombegowdanagar obstructing traffic movement in the southern parts of the City.

Sudden rain lashed the City on Saturday afternoon taking people by surprise. What began as a hot summer day turned dark with rain clouds by 2 pm and thundershowers followed. Several people who were out on a lunch break had to rush for cover into shops and bus shelters.

A few low-lying areas were inundated due to poor drainage system. The water level rose to over one foot in some areas at Hombegowdanagar obstructing traffic movement in the southern parts of the City. Traffic piled up on Hosur Road, K H Road, Shantinagar and Wilson Garden because of water-logging. Strong winds uprooted two trees on Airport Road and at Gandhi Bazaar. The Met department said they had been predicting rains on Saturday.

“There is an upper air trough running from Telangana area to Tamil Nadu across interior Karnataka. Instability in the atmosphere caused by heat and the moisture feed from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal created an ideal condition for rain,” explained a Met official. Rain is expected on Sunday as well.
