BANGALORE: As a tribute to Rajkumar, members of the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) Council on Saturday decided to install a bronze statue of the thespian near the Town Hall in the city.

A resolution to this effect was adopted at a special meeting of the BMP Council convened to condole the demise of Rajkumar.

Members of all parties paid rich tributes to the Kannada film icon at the meeting.

Expenditure

While Mayor Mumtaz Begum and Deputy Mayor M. Lakshminarayana said the entire expenditure on the statue would be borne through their discretionary quota, the ruling party leader H. Ravindra suggested that all corporators should get the privilege of paying their homage to the great personality.

"So let us get it done through the civic body," he said. Responding to a demand by members that the BMP should take over the Kanteerava Studios, where the actor had been buried, and develop it, the Mayor said she would soon submit a proposal in this regard to the State Government.

Compensation

The council also decided to grant compensation to the families of seven persons who were killed in police firing and a police constable who died in the attack by the crowd during the violence that erupted in the city after Rajkumar's death.

Later, the members led by the Mayor visited the house of Rajkumar and offered their condolences.
