They are building Bangalore, but...
The Times of India

Bangalore: Under fire from the state government for “not living up to their commitments on infrastructure projects”, several major builders in the city said things aren’t entirely the way the government puts it.

Builders say there have been instances where bureaucrats give an OK for a project, but it is stalled by local corporators who are keen that the project goes through them so that they get a cut from it.

Both Prestige and the Puravankara Group said they are committed to contributing to the Marathahalli Road upgradation project, including the widening of the railway overbridge on that road, which is today a major congestion point for traffic to and from Whitefield.

Prestige Group chairman Irfan Razack said he’s “absolutely committed” to the MG Road pavement upgradation project (between Kumble Circle and Brigade Road).

Mantri Developers said it has signed a deal with the Lake Development Authority to rejuvenate Mahadevapura Lake and maintain it for five years.

The Brigade Group has completed the asphalting and median work on half of the 2-km long 24th main road in JP Nagar. Puravankara Projects director Girish Puravankara said the board has sanctioned Rs 50 lakh for Marathahalli Road. “We are also keen on the road in JP Nagar along Jaraganahalli lake, but till nobody has been able to tell us who is responsible for the road — the CMC or BDA,” he said.

Sobha Developers director Jackbastian Nazareth said his company is ‘‘not sure if the government has any clear process in place to involve private parties. They should first call us.”
