THIS is a perfect place for the hot season. The Sankey T ank, located near the Vyalikaval Circle in Sadashivanagar , is a serene and scenic spot to visit. The lake, which was one of th water bodies that once contained water that be used, is no w used only as a picnic spot.

Believed to have been constructed in the year 1914 by a person called Sankey , the lake is no an area of 55 acres and has an average depth of 30 History has it that the water of the lake was used the Mysore Maharajas, who resided at the Bangalore P alace situated near the lake.

Boating is one of the major attractions her different type of boats available here are and pedal boats. While the gardens surrounding t tank are under the direct purview of the H orticul Department, the lake is being taken care of Bangalore City Corporation.

As Bangalore has already lost many of its beautifu lakes, stringent measures have been taken to preve dumping of garbage and other non-biodegradabl wastes near this one.

"Ho wever , the lake is mainly polluted by the ido immersed in it. Also , materials used to pe death rituals add to the pollution," said K S Kris S wamy , executive engineer in-charge of the lake.

Stringent measures have no w been taken to the lake and its surroundings clean. Security pers nel have been appointed to check littering around the area.

At present, the garden surrounding the lake being reno vated. Reno vation work is expected to completed in another three to four months time.

"As the number of joggers are more, the width of the joggers track, which was initially three wide, has now been increased to six metres, Krishna Swamy .
