Now, CM on Monorail track

Bangalore: If the state is looking at a chief minister who would begin his term at office by making the right noises, then H D Kumaraswamy’s performance report would perhaps read ‘A++’. As Bangaloreans eagerly look forward to the Metro Rail as a solution to traffic woes, the CM has already hinted at an additional Monorail.
Addressing a meet on ‘Public-private partnership on infrastructure’, organised by CIIKarnataka, Kumaraswamy was clear the state would not depend only on the Metro. “I have asked officials to explore the possibility of a Monorail immediately,’’ he said.
Kumaraswamy said he was looking forward to his meeting with the Union urban development ministry in New Delhi to discuss the modalities of executing the Metro Rail project.
The CM also stressed on more participation from the private sector on all infrastructure-related projects in the state. “All states have very little resources for infrastructure after focusing on key issues like healthcare and education. Therefore, public-private partnership in infrastructure can contribute a lot for any state’s development,’’ Kumaraswamy pointed out.
Areas like water supply, transportation, waste water management, roads, education and healthcare would get a big boost if they work on a PPP model, he said.
Devanahalli-Byapanahalli rail link: The BMRC will build a Metro Rail connecting Devenahalli international airport to Byapanahalli in the II phase of the project.
BMRC MD K N Shrivastava said the rail link will pass along the expressway being planned between K R Puram and Devanahalli. The other link being planned is between Bannerghatta Road and Electronic City on Hosur Road via Arakere. The BMRC has planned several other links to important destinations in Phase-II and Phase-III.
