High Court issues notice on conversion of land near Devanahalli

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Friday ordered issue of emergent notices to the State Government, the Special Deputy Commissioner (Special DC) of Bangalore Rural District and others on a petition by B.G. Ramesh and others challenging the permission given to convert the lands near Devanahalli, where the international airport is coming up, from agricultural to non-agricultural purposes.

The petitioners were questioning the September 12, 2004 order of the Special DC, Bangalore Rural, in permitting the Ministry of Communications Employees' House Building Cooperative Society to convert 300 acres in Hosahalli village near Bettadahalasur from agricultural to non-agricultural purposes.

The society said it wanted to form a layout but the petitioners said the land could not be converted as the Bangalore Development Authority in its Outline Development Plan had specified that the land came under the green belt area.
