BANGALORE: The last year of the present BMP council has too many infrastructure projects awaiting clearance. As many as six flyovers, eleven joint venture complexes, seven RoBs/RuBs and eight subways need this year’s budget approval.

The ruling Congress dispensation at the BMP may find it difficult if did not meet the infrastructure targets it had set up in 2001.

The ongoing budget deliberations have focused on these issues especially on the flyovers and grade seperators. The BMP has planned flyovers at Kanakapura Road and Ring Road Junction, Near Ayyappa Temple in Peenya, Near Bharath Talkies and Urvashi Theatre to Lalbagh South entrance.

Grade separators are also planned at Maharani’s circle and at Balekundri Circle. The consultants have been asked to prepare designs and technical drafts anticipating budget approval, said sources.

In keeping with its trend of joint venture commercial complexes, the BMP has planned eleven more of them. The JVs would not cost anything to the civic body and the private developers would invest in the entire project in lieu of a long-term lease of the concerned property.

The expressions of interest for all of them have been called and based on consultant’s evaluation, a decision would be taken, said BMP additional commissioner (Finance) P K Sreehari.

He said other works like improvement to Tavarekere Park, Lakkasandra quarry and Jayanagar boulevard are underway.
