Metro: Panel on feeder system
Deccan Herald

An Experts committee will be set up shortly to study and recommend the kind of feeder system needed for the proposed Bangalore Metro, Chief Minister H D Kumaaraswamy said here on Saturday.

Speaking to reporters, he said a decision on the persons to be part of the panel would be announced after the next cabinet meeting. The committee would recommend what would be the best feeder system for Metro – whether Monorail or any other system including strengthening of the existing city bus service.

He said he was given a presentation by a monorail company of Malaysia [not the one involving former cabinet secretary Zafar Saifulla].

The company has said it was prepared to take up work by this September and complete the first stage within 18 months.

“I want the work to be started by September so that in one and a half years you have the feeder system ready. Monorail company has said it can construct 150-160 km of track in Bangalore on build-operate-transfer system. Under this system suburban centres like Yelahanka, Nelamangala, Kengeri can be connected. Monorail company is ready begin the survey by this month-end”, he remarked. He added that Metro can solve only 25 per cent of the present traffic bottleneck. “Hence, we should have some other system to complement Metro,” he added.
