BMP pegged the total complaints received at around 700. Chikpet registered the highest number of complaints – 130.
As a police inspector clad in his uniform walked into Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s Janata Darshan at the Visveswaraya PU College, Airport Road around noon on Friday, there was curiosity among the citizens who had gathered there to air their grievances.
Moments later, they were witness to the police inspector declaring the department’s helplessness before the BMP.
In 2003, the BMP sanctioned one of its buildings in Kodihalli limits for Airport Police Station. For that, the police department had deposited Rs 17,10,000 in November that year. But there was virtually no communication thereafter to the Police Department.
PI S Dhaneesh Rao narrated the case to the BMP’s team that included Mayor Mumtaz Begum and senior officers in the rank of Engineer-in-Chief and Additional Commissioner.
The police inspector said “neither has the BMP handed over the building to us nor has it returned us the money. No interest is paid on our money too!” Janata Darshans were held across 10 revenue divisions on Friday: JB Nagar, Sarwajnanagar, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Chikpet, Chamarajpet, Govindarajnagar, Madivala and Hanumanthnagar. Their complaints were largely on water, roads and electricity. BMP pegged the total complaints received at around 700. Chikpet registered the highest number of complaints — 130.
The BWSSB was in for some special mauling by the citizens.
“I have not seen a drop of Cauvery Water” said Lingarajpuram resident Amalanadan.
Janata Darshans are scheduled in the other revenue divisions on March 13 and 15.
PROXY
In the Hebbal Revenue Division playing proxy for its Ganganagar corporator L A Jayalakshmi was her husband Vijaykumar. In the afternoon as the Mayor went on her round of visits, it was Mr Vijaykumar who took the mike saying “citizens should also take note of the developmental works done by the corporator and not just complain. All your problems will be addressed”.
None, including the presiding officer and the Mayor raised a protest.
