BANGALORE: Union Minister of State for Planning M V Rajashekhar said that the Union Government was expected to give its approval to the Bangalore Metro Rail Project soon.

He told reporters here on Sunday the project should have obtained the necessary approval by now but was delayed because Ghulam Nabi Azad was shifted from Urban Development portfolio to Jammu Kashmir Chief Minister’s post.

“We have to submit the project details to the new Minister again. But, I am sure the project will get all clearances from the Centre very soon,” Rajashekhar said.

The project is now waiting for the green signal from the Centre. The Group of Ministers headed by Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar is looking into issues like the gauge.

After the GoM approval the Cabinet committee on Economic Affairs has to clear the project. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation has made all the preparations to start the work on ground, once it gets the required clearances.
