Mangalore/Bangalore: Keeping up the tempo on efforts to decongest Bangalore, CM Kumaraswamy on Sunday said, two theme-based townships will come up on the Bangalore-Mysore infrastructure corridor (BMIC).

“The state has prioritised the establishment of new theme townships, one on IT and the other on Health. Emphasis is also on developing infrastructure in Tier II cities of Mangalore, Mysore.’’

These townships are the Centre’s gift to Karnataka in the Union Budget.

And appropriately Kumaraswamy announced the proposal at a function in Mangalore, which was attended by Chidambaram.

Speaking at Corporation Bank’s centenary celebrations, he said Mangalore, Belgaum, Hubli-Dharwad, Gulbarga, Mysore and Hassan will be selected as tier-II cities. The townships are aimed at eliminating the IT sector’s cry that land and sufficient infrastructure has not been provided for them in Bangalore. Since the government is keen that investments do not go away from Karnataka, the policymakers feel exclusive IT townships are the answer to the problem.
