BANGALORE: There is an urgent need to improve Bangalore’s infrastructure and transportation system, failing which the City may lose it’s cultural identity, said former director and founder of the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, Professor N S Ramaswamy.

He was speaking at a function organised to felicitate him on his 80th birthday and for having received the Padmabhushan Award.

Ramaswamy suggested that the Government needed to immediately address the infrastructure issues. He also said that the Government should introduce additional buses to reduce the number of private vehicles plying on the city roads.

Expressing concern over the lack of will on part of the authorities to develop the city he said: “I have been giving suggestions to the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) since 1953 on various matters, but nobody has implemented them.

“They, however, keep asking me for suggestions.”

Union Minister for State for Planning M V Rajashekharan praised Ramaswamy for his contribution to the field of spirituality and management.
